BBC’s Planet Earth (2006) television series was the most expensive nature documentary ever made. It was the first to be filmed in high definition (HD), and each of the 11 episodes focused on one habitat on earth, such as mountains, deserts, etc. Many scenes in the series were so rare or so beautiful that they brought tears to my eyes.

How excited I was to learn that a new Planet Earth series was coming out at the end of 2016! This time the series was filmed in ultra-HD and many scenes were shot using drones. Planet Earth II only has 7 episodes, but the budget for each was even higher than for Planet Earth I. Just like Planet Earth I, each episode features one habitat.

Having just finished Planet Earth II, I would honestly say that it is the best television series ever made. The close-up scenes with the animals are so intimate that you feel like you are right there with them. I would recommend this series to anyone who is interested in animals, nature, and the beauty of our planet.
