For many people, time is the enemy. Deadlines for projects or homework cause anxiety, making us stressed out and unable to perform. However, by adopting the Pomodoro Technique, even the hardest task becomes easy to overcome.

Invented by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s, the Pomodoro Technique is a time management method. It involves using a timer to set periods of work time spliced with short breaks. The duration of each work period is usually 25 minutes, but you can adjust the time according to whatever suits you best.

Francesco named this method after the timer he used when he was a student. It was a kitchen timer shaped like tomato, and the Italian word for tomato is “pomodoro”. He would set the time to the highest setting and work until the timer rang. This is why each work period is considered one “pomodoro”.

The Pomodoro Technique involves the following six steps:
Step 1: Choose a task.
Step 2: Set the timer to 25 minutes.
Step 3: Work on the task until the timer rings.
Step 4: Write a checkmark on a piece of paper.
Step 5: If there are less than four checkmarks, take a short break of 3 to 5 minutes. After the break, return to Step 2.
Step 6: When there are four checkmarks, take a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes. Then, erase the checkmarks and return to Step 1.

This technique is believed to help people focus and improve time management. This is because setting clear work periods as well as regular breaks limits interruptions and provides people with a sense of achievement as they work. And slowly but surely tasks get completed, one tomato at a time.
